Yesterday, VTV24 news center reported on a young gamer who attempted suicide by ingesting pesticide. The original post from VTV’s official news page read as follows:
“On July 19, the Intensive Care and Toxicology Department at Children’s Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City announced that doctors saved a critically ill 13-year-old boy from Hau Giang who had ingested pesticide. According to his family, the boy was upset with his father for not buying him a phone as promised after the school year ended, so he took the pesticide. He reportedly consumed about 200 cc of the poison.
Upon admission, the boy was drowsy, unconscious, with cyanosis, weak breathing, excessive mucus secretion, and pupils constricted to about 1mm. After nearly a week of treatment, his condition has improved. He was taken off the ventilator, is now alert, and his organ functions are recovering well, with promising acetylcholinesterase enzyme levels.
After recovery, the boy expressed regret for his actions. This serves as a reminder for parents to control their words when angry, especially with sensitive teenagers. Harsh words can deeply hurt children and lead to negative thoughts.”
Notably, VTV has recently been reporting frequently on the current state of gamers. Just last week, the Vietnamese gaming community was stirred when VTV featured several top local gaming titles as examples of ongoing problems in online gaming.
Issues like gaming addiction, lack of content moderation, poor age control, unlimited playtime, and more were highlighted in the 7 PM news broadcast. Games mentioned included Arena of Valor, PUBG Mobile, Identity V, and CS:GO, all of which have large player bases in Vietnam.
These challenges have led to serious consequences among young gamers, including recent tragic cases that have left many concerned. Hopefully, such heartbreaking incidents will be avoided in the future, and the Vietnamese gaming community will face fewer hardships going forward.
