BIBI’s performance at this year’s WATERBOMB festival has become the center of heated debate across social media platforms, not just in South Korea but internationally. A video clip showing the singer removing her jacket along with a series of suggestive moves and expressions quickly went viral on Instagram, X (Twitter), YouTube, and TikTok, sparking intense discussions.
Many viewers compared BIBI’s act to the bold style recently popularized by Sabrina Carpenter. Still, plenty of people felt the Korean singer crossed the line between sexy and inappropriate.

Most comments under the viral videos were far from positive. Some fans expressed concern about how easily accessible these images are online, especially to minors. “Worried kids might see this,” “Oh my god… what is she doing,” “Way too much,” “The performance missed the mark and just looks awkward,” and more. One hot topic was whether BIBI simply took off her jacket or if her dance moves were intentionally provocative.

On the flip side, some defended the artist, saying that sexy dancing and wearing swimwear at WATERBOMB is normal. BIBI has long embraced a daring image, so this stage wasn’t shocking. The real issue, critics say, is her deliberate use of sensual expressions and choreography that invite certain associations. Many also questioned the public sharing of these videos online, with comments like “If this was a 19+ festival, it’d be fine. But these performances shouldn’t be posted online without age restrictions.”

With this performance, BIBI seems to be aiming for the same media buzz as Kwon Eunbi, who’s known as the “WATERBOMB queen” for her sexy festival stages. This isn’t BIBI’s first time stirring controversy at WATERBOMB. Back in 2022, she almost had a wardrobe malfunction when her top strap slipped on stage.

BIBI, born Kim Hyeong-seo in 1998, started out by composing and uploading music on SoundCloud under the name Nakedbibi. She gained attention in 2018 as the runner-up on SBS’s survival show The Fan. A year later, she officially debuted with the single Binu (Soapy).
Between 2020 and 2023, BIBI rose as a standout in K-R&B with hits like Kazino, I’m Good at Goodbyes, Life is a Bi…, and her studio album Lowlife Princess: Noir. Her track BIBI Vengeance went viral on TikTok thanks to its edgy choreography.

She’s also worked with 88rising and performed at major US music festivals like Coachella, expanding her international reach. Early in 2024, BIBI broke through with Bam Yang Gang, a softer, cuter track that quickly topped Korean charts and achieved a Perfect All-Kill.
Alongside music, BIBI has ventured into acting under her real name Kim Hyeong-seo. She made a mark starring with Song Joong-ki in the film Hopeless, earning a Best New Actress nomination at the 2024 Baeksang Arts Awards. She also appeared in TV dramas like The Worst of Evil and The Fiery Priest 2.

WATERBOMB has long been known as a free-spirited music festival where artists wearing bikinis, going shirtless, or delivering hot performances is nothing new. But BIBI’s case highlights how thin the line is between sexy and tasteless. In their quest to stand out and grab attention, many artists push the boundaries of boldness on public stages, sparking ongoing debates about performance limits.
