Public bathing, sauna, and relaxation culture have long been an essential part of urban life, helping people unwind and relieve stress. Female customers especially prioritize safety, privacy, and discretion when visiting these facilities. They’re willing to pay extra for a completely private and secure space to relax.

However, a shocking incident recently happened at a public bathhouse in Jiashan City, Zhejiang Province, China, highlighting serious security gaps at such venues. A 25-year-old man managed to bypass the entry system and break into the women’s bathing area while customers were naked. This not only caused deep emotional trauma for the victims but also sparked a heated debate about legal responsibility and the duty of care these businesses owe their clients.

The Shocking Moment Victims Were Caught Naked

The incident took place in May 2026 but details only became public on June 9, 2026, when Jiashan city media outlets reported extensively, drawing widespread attention.

According to the victim, Ms. Shen, she was enjoying the women-only bathing area when the intrusion occurred. After finishing her bath, she went to the hair-drying section to get dressed. At that moment, completely naked and without any cover, a strange man suddenly broke in through the door.

Ms. Shen recalled that there were four women inside the female area at the time, including herself, a bathhouse staff member, and two other female guests. All were in their most vulnerable state. The sudden appearance of a man caused panic, screams, and chaos.

Police arrived quickly after an emergency call, apprehended the man, and launched an investigation. The intruder was identified as a 25-year-old named Xia.

Behind the “Drunk” Excuse: Real Motive and Security Failures

When arrested, Xia claimed he was drunk and confused, accidentally entering the women’s area while looking for the restroom. But Ms. Shen immediately dismissed this as a weak excuse.

She explained that a young woman was visibly upset and hiding in the women’s restroom. Xia was not lost, he was stalking that woman due to prior personal conflicts.

Regardless of his motive, Xia’s unauthorized entry into the women’s area was a clear legal violation, severely infringing on the privacy and dignity of the other guests. Ms. Shen said the intrusion exposed her completely, causing lasting psychological trauma, insecurity, and humiliation for days afterward.

Even more alarming, this incident exposed major security flaws at the bathhouse:

Entry system loophole: The women’s area should only be accessible via a smart card issued to members, with a gate barrier in place. However, a large technical gap existed between the gate and the wall. Xia exploited this by crawling through the gap without needing a card.

Slow response: Although the bathhouse claimed to have staff inside the women’s area who immediately removed the intruder once spotted, Xia had already reached the hair-drying section and seen the guests in vulnerable states before being stopped.

Resolution: $1,000 Compensation and Security Fixes

Knowing her rights were seriously violated, Ms. Shen demanded both Xia and the bathhouse management be held accountable. She sought 10,000 yuan (about 40 million VND) in emotional damages from each party.

On June 9, 2026, the bathhouse officially responded. After mediation by lawyers and market regulators, a civil settlement was reached.

The bathhouse agreed to pay Ms. Shen 7,000 yuan in emotional damages. They also committed to stationing security guards 24/7 at the women’s area entrance to prevent any future unauthorized access. Xia was permanently banned from the facility and will face legal consequences for his actions, with police continuing their investigation.

This intrusion incident serves as a costly lesson and a stern warning to all public service businesses. Customers’ privacy, especially women’s, must never be compromised by lax management or flimsy excuses. Ms. Shen’s firm stand to defend her rights deserves praise and pushes businesses to improve security measures, creating safer, more trustworthy environments for everyone.
