Authorities report that a high school teacher in Georgia is now facing serious charges after being accused of engaging in sexual acts with a student on school grounds.
Details of the Allegations

Maris Nichols, 25, a biology teacher at Alexander High School in Douglas, was arrested last Friday. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Nichols faces two counts of sexual misconduct and abuse. Based on the arrest warrant obtained by 11Alive, investigators found Nichols had sexual relations with a student on at least two separate occasions.
The first incident reportedly happened on April 23 inside a closet between classrooms at Alexander High School. The second took place on May 2 inside a Hummer parked in the driveway area in Douglasville. The arrest warrants emphasize that Nichols was in a position of authority over the student and was considered a trusted figure.
School’s Response
Shortly after the allegations surfaced, Nichols’ profile was removed from the school’s website. Parents were also alerted about the situation by authorities on Thursday.
In an official statement, the school expressed being “deeply disturbed” by the accusations. Representatives said that once the misconduct was reported, the school immediately launched an investigation. Student safety remains the top priority. The alleged behavior is unacceptable and a serious breach of the ethical standards all teachers must uphold.
The school system pledged full cooperation with state and local law enforcement to clarify the case. At this time, no details have been released about Nichols’ employment status or any internal disciplinary actions.
