Playing games for fun is a totally normal hobby. People of all ages can jump into their favorite games as long as they have the right gear and, most importantly, the time. In fact, some studies show gaming not only helps relieve stress but also sharpens logical thinking and intelligence with certain types of games.
But for people with demanding careers, gaming can be a pretty rare luxury. It’s not because the games themselves are expensive, but because these “special” gamers have very limited free time. Sometimes even taking a break to eat or rest can feel like a waste of precious minutes.
While many assume these busy stars don’t have time to game like regular players, plenty of them, both in Vietnam and worldwide, are actually well-known gamers in their communities. Some even use gaming to bridge the gap between themselves and their fans.
1. Kim Hee-chul (Super Junior)
When it comes to gaming obsession, you can’t miss Hee-chul from the famous K-pop group Super Junior. Not only is he a hilarious entertainer on variety shows, but he’s also a dedicated player of Riot’s hit game League of Legends. His idol? None other than Faker, the legendary T1 pro player.
Hee-chul’s fandom for Faker is just as intense as any fan’s. Rumor has it he once canceled a Christmas party just to appear on the Radio Star show because Faker was a guest.
2. Rapper Eminem
No list of celebrity gamers would be complete without mentioning rap legend Eminem, the man behind the hit “Rap God.” The 47-year-old hip-hop star is a huge fan of Call of Duty, the popular shooter series from Activision.
Interestingly, Eminem was even invited to perform a track for their then-newest release, Call of Duty: Ghosts. While the game wasn’t a massive hit, Eminem’s passion for gaming is undeniable, especially considering he once rapped 100 words in just 16 seconds.
3. Snoop Dogg
Another top American rapper, Snoop Dogg, has openly admitted his love for Call of Duty as well. He even lent his voice to the game’s characters.
Besides that, Snoop is also a fan of NFL 20, a football game, and once streamed it live on Twitch. However, his streaming career lasted only 26 minutes before he got completely dominated by an opponent.
4. Ngo Kien Huy
Back to Vietnamese showbiz, the first name that comes to mind is Ngo Kien Huy, the singer behind the hit “Gia Vo Yeu” that defined the youth of the 80s and 90s generations. Nicknamed “Bap,” he’s a loyal player of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and also enjoys League of Legends, with Taric as his favorite champion.
To run Black Ops 4 smoothly, Ngo Kien Huy invested in a powerful gaming setup worth about 55 million VND. If you visit TH Gaming, a gaming center in Ho Chi Minh City, you might even catch him playing alongside Ngoc Trai from the TV series Kinh Van Hoa.
5. Son Tung M-TP
As one of Vietnam’s top stars, Son Tung M-TP is still just a 26-year-old guy at heart who loves to unwind and do what he enjoys. Gaming is one of those things.
A PlayStation fan, it’s common to see Son Tung playing games with close friends. He’s shared that whenever there’s tension or misunderstandings between him and Quang Huy, they pause everything to play a few rounds of games. Once the stress melts away, talking things out becomes much easier.
Gaming is a simple pleasure, but knowing that top stars share this passion creates a special connection between fans and their idols.
