There are plenty of answers since water can put out fire, but on the flip side, intense heat can easily vaporize water. So what happens if you pour lava heated to over 1,400 degrees Celsius onto dry ice at around -78 degrees Celsius? Let’s check out this experiment by a YouTuber to find out.

Specifically, a YouTuber from Belgium running the PressTube channel, known for science experiments, surprised many by answering this question. By pouring lava onto dry ice, the results clearly showed which one wins. But the prep was no joke: heating lava up to 1,400 degrees Celsius and handling dry ice, scientifically known as solid carbon dioxide, which sublimates at -78.5 degrees Celsius. For context, regular ice sublimates at 0 degrees Celsius, but dry ice can cool 3.3 times more than the same amount of regular ice.



Then, he poured the dry ice into a stainless steel container and carefully poured the hot lava on top. The results showed dry ice was stronger since the blocks barely changed or melted, while the lava quickly turned black.



This outcome sparked some debate. Some argued lava was no match for dry ice, while others agreed dry ice won but pointed out the lava amount might have been small compared to the dry ice mass. Either way, it’s an awesome experiment from the YouTuber’s team.
