After a month of controversy over his food reviews and travel spots, YouTuber Duy Nến’s channel Hà Nội Phố has been steadily losing popularity. The online community closely watches his every move and the places he visits to film, actively boycotting him. His video output has slowed down significantly, and he’s had to remove several clips that didn’t meet expectations.
But for some viewers, that’s still not enough. Just hours ago, Hà Nội Phố uploaded a video reviewing a local fish soup restaurant. Even though Duy Nến wore a mask, going out to film food reviews during the pandemic is seen as irresponsible.
Additionally, the channel gave incorrect info when stating the location as “Đào Duy Từ Street intersecting Nguyễn Văn Siêu” when the actual street is Nguyễn Siêu. Netizens believe this shows careless copying without proper fact-checking.
Fueled by anger and ongoing boycott efforts, viewers quickly contacted the restaurant owner to inform them about the situation and the Hà Nội Phố channel. The restaurant responded officially on their Facebook page:
“Dear customers!
We want to clarify so our customers and fans can feel assured. Our small restaurant was opened honestly by me, who recently returned to Vietnam. As someone who’s been away from home for a long time, I wanted to come back in my later years and open a Banh Canh shop to share childhood memories and serve friends and neighbors in the city.
We honestly didn’t know who Duy Nến was when he posted the video because we get guests filming and photographing our dishes every day. Since the restaurant is new, this actually made us happy and motivated our team.
We were surprised when people started messaging Duy Nến and then checked online. Please understand, we didn’t choose him, and we aren’t wealthy enough to hire PR or reviewers. We’re a small business hoping to build our brand through valued customers!
The restaurant is now reaching out to Duy Nến to have the video removed from his channel.”
Within hours of posting, the video was officially taken down from Hà Nội Phố’s channel.
