A look back at the iconic friend groups who ruled YouTube and youth culture a decade ago.

They didn’t go to the same school or class but shared a common passion, which is how these famous friend groups became so close. Nearly 10 years ago, young people were glued to YouTube, binge-watching viral clips, vlogs, short films, and more. It was kind of like TikTok today, but with a different, special vibe!

Ten years later, everyone has grown up and taken different paths. Some pursued professional careers in entertainment, others started families, and some have faded from the spotlight. Still, fans can easily name these groups and even recall each member. What people remember most is the image of them all hanging out together back then, a moment that feels impossible to recreate.

Pho Dac Biet and Ngoc Thao

Pho Dac Biet (To Buu Phat) was one of YouTube’s biggest names back in the day. Born in 1991, he was among the first to create funny content and set trends for young audiences. His on-screen partner was Ngoc Thao, one of Saigon’s early e-girls.

If Pho was goofy and playful, Thao played the role of a cute, slightly spoiled girl with a distinctive voice. Their contrasting personalities clicked perfectly, producing countless challenge videos with millions of views. In 2015, at the peak of their success, they decided to end their popular series “Thich An Pho,” much to fans’ disappointment.

Today, Ngoc Thao is a beautiful, successful actress who owns a fashion store and has ventured into real estate. Pho Dac Biet has also thrived as a businessman and CEO of an entertainment company, mentoring young talents. Although they don’t appear together as often, their deep friendship still inspires fans.

The Vlogger Crew: Huy Me, JVevermind, Toan Shinoda, Lam Viet Anh

Alongside Pho Dac Biet, the strong YouTube scene in northern Vietnam was shaped by this tight-knit group: Huy Me, JVevermind, Toan Shinoda, and Lam Viet Anh. Most started as overseas students or attended prestigious schools, which made them early adopters of new trends like vlogging.

What began as solo creators soon turned into a team based in Hanoi, producing popular videos together. Their friendship extended beyond social media, they partied, supported each other’s projects, and were inseparable in real life.

Sadly, this group is also remembered for tragedy when Toan Shinoda passed away at just 27 years old.

Now in their 30s, these former student vloggers have matured. Huy Me remains active in the arts and media. JVevermind briefly returned as a director in 2020 but then vanished again. Lam Viet Anh, the most private member, now lives abroad.

The Good-Looking Crew: BB&BG

BB&BG was one of Saigon’s top comedy groups, attracting a huge young audience with fun scripts, charming performances, and the good looks of members like Kim Nha, BB Tran, and Lam A Han.

But with fame came challenges, unfinished stories, and strains in relationships. In 2017, leader BB Tran left to go solo, marking the end of the group. Today, a few former members still act professionally, while most have moved on to different paths.

Though they stopped five years ago, BB&BG’s parody videos still pop up in fans’ memories. Members who remain in entertainment sometimes meet up and even tease each other on social media. Others have disappeared from the public eye.

BB Tran is arguably the most successful, carving out a name as a witty, talented actor. His humor and charm have landed him spots on game shows, TV dramas, music videos, and a growing fanbase.

Like BB Tran, Kim Nha has also focused on acting, starring in popular films and earning critical praise. She now enjoys a happy life with her Thai husband, after a previous marriage ended in divorce.

Lam A Han (born 1994), another beautiful member, faced ups and downs in love. She’s now a mother of two. Though less active in entertainment, fans still follow her life closely.

FAP TV Group

Though they appeared later on YouTube, FAP TV quickly matched and even surpassed their predecessors in views. After years of work, they’ve proven their talent with many dedicated projects. The original four members were Huynh Phuong, Thai Vu, Vinh Rau, and Ribi Sachi. While the cast has grown, fans still remember these four most vividly.

In 2019, FAP TV made history as the first Vietnamese YouTube channel to earn the diamond play button for hitting 10 million subscribers. Now with 13.3 million followers, they still post weekly videos, though the explosive buzz has mellowed.

Besides their videos, fans love their real-life friendship. The trio Thai Vu, Vinh Rau, and Huynh Phuong stick together through everything, showing a bond that’s lasted and inspired many.
