What Other Games Can Learn From Genshin Impact’s Success

Genshin Impact offers plenty of lessons for other games to follow.

Genshin Impact has surprised everyone, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about games this year. Players have flocked to the vibrant world of Teyvat, filled with elemental monsters and powerful characters, offering an exciting experience.

While it has its flaws, there’s no denying that Genshin Impact has broken new ground in many ways. This article highlights features other MMOs could learn from, along with MMO elements that Genshin Impact could add in the future to keep thriving.

What to learn from: Explore more, earn bigger rewards

Genshin Impact exploration

One of Genshin Impact’s greatest achievements that MMOs should take note of is its exploration. The game’s world is not only diverse and carefully detailed with ruins, mountains, and villages, but scattered throughout are treasure chests, secret puzzles, and collectible items that challenge your determination to find.

It’s rare to see exploration features so close to perfect like in Genshin Impact. Every time you immerse yourself in the wild, even a small glimmer can lead to a puzzle unlocking a valuable chest or hidden loot waiting to be collected. If you pay attention and don’t overlook anything, these little details have a huge positive impact, making everyone want to explore and keeping gameplay far from boring. It’s thrilling to climb, drift along streams, investigate every corner, and earn well-deserved rewards, things we’ve forgotten in many MMOs but rediscover in Genshin Impact.

Needs improvement: More real players and variety

Genshin Impact multiplayer

Anyone who’s played Genshin Impact’s multiplayer knows what we mean. Despite the many hours you can spend in the game, what you can actually do with teammates is pretty limited. Players joining your game can’t open chests with you or benefit from gathering quests. Except for a few cases like boss fights and dungeon runs, being in a group is almost pointless unless you just don’t want to explore the world alone.

MMOs work the opposite way. Most content is designed for groups, with only a few parts for solo play. While Genshin Impact’s single-player mode is lively and engaging, it would be amazing if more players could join the fun. Even a simple system like what Destiny or Fallout 76 offers would be enough to give a real sense of a thriving world full of explorers. At the very least, teammates should benefit from all the activities you do in Genshin Impact.

What to add: Mounts and pets

Genshin Impact mounts and pets

Mounts and pets don’t just speed up travel, they can also add new gameplay elements and ways to earn rewards, both of which will likely come to Genshin Impact eventually. The game world already has dragons, wolves, and strange elemental creatures that would be amazing to ride and explore on.

Pets are a staple in modern games. They offer more than just looks, they can complement your four-character team in useful ways. What if you don’t have a strong fire-element character? No worries, your pet could fill that gap. What if you’re unhappy with your healer and want more damage output? A pet with healing abilities would be a great team member. Currently, Genshin Impact has characters with dolls or small elemental creatures tied to their skills, but these aren’t true pets in any sense. This is definitely a feature Genshin Impact should add soon.
