As video games edge closer to being recognized as an art form on par with cinema, character design has gotten way more complex. Some characters gamers love so much they’d marry them, while others just give you the creeps the moment you see them.

Here’s part two of the top 10 scariest characters in video game history that still make players jump. Hope you find it interesting.

All NPCs – Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone / Chamber Of Secrets (PS1)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on PS1 is a beloved third-person adventure game that lets you fly on a broomstick and dive into a magical world. It’s a childhood classic for many gamers.

But here’s the thing: all the budget for character models clearly went to Harry Potter himself. The NPCs around Hogwarts look absolutely terrifying.

Harry Potter PS1 NPCs

Neville Longbottom looks like some cave-dwelling reptile, and Hagrid resembles a blobfish from the deep sea. It’s pretty creepy.

These characters should look human, but the PS1’s hardware limits made them look downright disturbing, even haunting. The game is fun, but definitely avoid playing it at night if you don’t want sleepless nights.

Ooccoo – Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Simply put, Ooccoo is a bird with a human-like head and chest. It has glowing red eyes that can see into your soul and steal memories.

In the game, Ooccoo is a female member of the Oocca species in Twilight Princess. But every player who encounters her is instantly creeped out.

Ooccoo Zelda

Ooccoo helps Link teleport in and out of dungeons, but with that appearance, most players initially think she’s a villain sent by Ganon to cause chaos and kill Link. To make it worse, Ooccoo’s offspring don’t even have bodies, just tiny pale human heads with red eyes and wings.

The Master – Fallout series

The Master is a mutated monster with a bizarre, hard-to-describe appearance that haunts players after the first sight. His body is a mix of humans and mutants, and his voice sounds mechanical and digitized.

Originally, The Master was Richard Moreau, a Vault 8 resident who was expelled after being suspected of murder. He became a doctor at The Hub, about 400 miles from Vault 8. Later, he was attacked by mutants during an expedition and fell into a tank of Forced Evolutionary Virus (FEV).

After a week trapped in the chemical tank, Moreau emerged transformed. No longer a doctor, he became The Master, a grotesque monster. Instead of panicking, he saw himself as a perfect being and began commanding his minions to capture humans for FEV experiments.

His fusion of machines and living organisms turned him into a hideous half-human, half-machine mutant.

Monstro – The Binding Of Isaac: Afterbirth

Honestly, any boss from The Binding Of Isaac: Afterbirth could make this list. But Monstro stands out as a weird, grotesque boss with a creepy smile.

The most eye-catching (and unsettling) feature is Monstro’s mouth, chipped lips and a toothy grin. He spits red attacks from his mouth and sometimes jumps into the air, disappearing and attacking from above unexpectedly.

Monstro isn’t a hard boss: he moves slowly, his attacks are predictable, and his damage is low. But that unsettling smile sticks with players long after the fight.

The Moon – Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

The Moon is set to crash into the land of Termina in three days. Only a miracle, or Link, can stop it. This urgent scenario is the harsh reality in Majora’s Mask.

Players have just three days to prepare for the impact or watch Termina be wiped out. Sounds terrifying, right? But the Moon itself is even scarier. It has a hideous, cratered face that glares and smiles creepily.

Having only three days to get ready is stressful enough, but the game also forces you to stare at this grotesque, grinning Moon as it barrels toward Termina. Definitely not a comforting sight…
