Sometimes, even games loved by millions have moments that send chills down your spine or outright scare you. It might be a grotesque monster or a sudden jump scare, but often the most haunting memory for players is a single creepy room. It doesn’t have to be a horror game, some other genres also feature strange rooms hiding messages that surprise players. That’s why there are plenty of rooms gamers regret ever opening, and here are the top 10 to help you avoid them.
(Warning: Not for players under 16+)
The Mirror Room, Silent Hill 3
Every Silent Hill game delivers intense horror, but Silent Hill 3 takes it a step further. Unlike part 2, part 3 continues the original story focusing on Heather Mason.
While exploring, Heather arrives at Brookhaven Hospital. Inside a storage room, she discovers her deepest fear: mirrors. This fear was hinted at earlier when Heather looks into a mall bathroom mirror and says it feels like the other side is a different world, and the figure staring back isn’t really her but some kind of copycat.

That fear quickly turns into a nightmare for both Heather and the player when the mirror starts bleeding onto the floor and will kill her instantly if she lingers.
Even worse, Heather’s reflection freezes and also turns into a pool of blood. This chilling scene perfectly captures Heather’s obsession and makes players want to leave this haunted room immediately.
The Theater Room, Until Dawn
Until Dawn uses a butterfly effect storyline that made it a hit among gamers. The story follows eight young people trying to survive on Blackwood Mountain. Every choice you make matters and can save everyone, doom them all, or land you somewhere in between.
One of the creepiest moments happens in chapter 5. The scene shows Sam in the bathroom, sensing something’s wrong. When she steps out, her clothes have vanished, replaced by balloons with arrows guiding her to the theater room. There, she’s chased by a killer, forcing you to quickly decide whether to run or hide.
The game’s pace speeds up here, so if you’re faint-hearted, this part can be terrifying. From the bathtub to the theater, the killer is lurking, sometimes far away, sometimes right next to Sam. All these elements make chapter 5 incredibly intense.
The Dentist’s Office, BioShock
BioShock is undeniably one of the iconic games of its generation. Released in 2007, it follows Jack, the sole survivor of a plane crash in the Atlantic, as he searches for Rapture, an underwater city.
Blending FPS with RPG, horror, and survival elements, Rapture’s eerie emptiness gives players the creeps. One place you’ll regret visiting is the Dentist’s Office. When you enter, you see an empty chair in the middle of the room surrounded by thick fog. As the fog clears, you notice a corpse sitting in the chair. While it won’t attack you, it’s enough to make you jump and feel uneasy.
While looting nearby, the fog returns, and when you turn around, a Thuggish Splicer in dental gear lunges at you. Though easy to defeat, it leaves a lasting bad impression about dentists.
The Serious Room, The Stanley Parable
The Stanley Parable started as a Half-Life 2 mod by Galactic Café and became a standalone hit in 2013. Since it uses the Source Engine, players noticed similarities with Valve’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
CS:GO players know the cheat code SV_CHEATS 1, which unlocks fun commands like no recoil or god mode. Players tried the same in Stanley Parable to uncover secrets.
Galactic Café expected this, so entering SV_CHEATS 1 teleports Stanley to the Serious Room, where the Narrator scolds both Stanley and the player. The only way out is to restart the game. If you’re stubborn and get teleported there again, the Narrator insults you for not learning your lesson. This room is basically a warning against cheating.
The St. John Family Dining Room, Telltale’s The Walking Dead
Telltale’s The Walking Dead series is full of tragic moments. One unforgettable scene is when Lee and his group are running low on supplies at a motel. Soon, the St. John brothers, dairy farmers, offer to resupply them in exchange for help. After stopping raiders from attacking the farm, Mark is hit by an arrow and needs care from Brenda St. John.
With little info on Mark’s condition, Lee grows suspicious and investigates before dinner. Players discover a bathroom behind a bookshelf, revealing a horrifying sight: Mark’s leg has been amputated, blood flowing freely. Lee immediately suspects what’s on the dinner menu.
Lee forces the St. John family to admit they are cannibals. This shocking scene shakes the group and teaches a harsh lesson about who to trust.
