TikTok isn’t just popular in Vietnam but worldwide. It became the most downloaded mobile app in 2021 with over 656 million downloads. This shows just how famous the app is and how many users it has.
TikTok has created many famous creators. But alongside the benefits, there are also serious concerns. A lot of harmful and “dirty” content has sparked outrage. There are even disturbing and sometimes creepy trends created by some users.
From Famous TikTokers
TikTok users probably still remember in 2022 when TikToker Nờ Ô Nô caused a huge backlash with the “What poor people eat, Nờ Ô Nô feeds that” videos. The insulting language and disrespect towards elders made viewers furious. After the public outcry, authorities and media strongly condemned Nờ Ô Nô.
Earlier, TikToker Lê Bống also faced criticism for filming a “cloud hunting” clip on a plane. She said, “This is the first time I’m speaking out after filming the clip by the plane window. At first, I saw it as a trend on social media and joined in without thinking about the consequences.
I’m not trying to excuse my mistakes, but if people keep filming clips like this, it will affect flight safety and endanger lives, including yours and those around you.
At the end of 2021, during the height of the pandemic, two famous female TikTokers were caught removing their masks to film dance clips at My Dinh Stadium.
More recently, a verified female TikToker made a series of clips promoting “18+ exchanges,” leaving viewers shaking their heads. Many are disappointed that even popular TikTokers sometimes push harmful content just for views and fame.
Even Regular TikTokers
Even regular TikTokers have created many inappropriate clips. Between 2020 and 2021, several very explicit trends emerged on TikTok. The language, expressions, and images in these clips were extremely harmful. The worst part is these trends became popular and were widely shared and copied by young users.
In mid-2022, many TikTokers filmed themselves dancing on airport tarmacs or even sitting on luggage carousels. These harmful trends have caused TikTok’s reputation to drop among users.
Recently, TikTok has been called out for multiple violations such as:
Poor control over violating content
Using algorithms to spread clickbait and sensational content
Lack of measures to stop business, sales, and advertising violations
No management of TikTok idols’ activities
No control over copyright violations
No safeguards to prevent users from misusing private images
