Pho is a traditional Vietnamese dish believed to have originated from Nam Dinh. It’s a staple loved by Vietnamese people, enjoyed at any time of the day.
The main ingredients of pho are rice noodles and broth (called “nuoc leo” in Southern Vietnam), served with thinly sliced beef or chicken. It’s usually accompanied by seasonings like hoisin sauce, pepper, lime, fish sauce, and chili, adjusted to personal taste.
Pho is not only a popular, everyday meal but also a highlight for tourists exploring Vietnamese cuisine. Today, it has gained international recognition and can be found in many countries worldwide.

Because of its fame, many noticed the irony in a TikTok video where the creator claimed to make pho but completely got the recipe wrong.
This young chef has millions of followers and over 100 million likes on social media, known for making unique dishes from around the world and hotel-style fruit carving tutorials.
How this young man made a “weird” dish.
Recently, his video making pho surprised viewers when he scooped noodles and poured a dark brown broth into the bowl, topped it with a pork rib and a few rushed slices of onion. In the video description, the chef even wrote, “I’m the Pho King…” The video has attracted over 3 million views and more than 7,500 comments.
Many commenters, both foreigners and Vietnamese, criticized the video for completely missing the authentic recipe that defines Vietnamese pho.

To make an authentic bowl of Vietnamese pho, the broth is usually clear and simmered from beef bones, flavored with spices like cinnamon, star anise, roasted ginger, cardamom, dried shrimp, cloves, coriander seeds, and roasted shallots.
The meat is typically beef (various cuts like brisket, flank, or fatty brisket served rare or well-done) or chicken (free-range boiled and shredded for rich flavor). The rice noodles are traditionally made from rice flour, rolled thin, then cut into strands.
