Three Women Caught with “Clients”
In early 2019, authorities conducted a routine check at a hotel in Cua Nam ward, Hanoi, where they found three couples involved in prostitution.
The three women were identified as Nguyen Thi T.L. (24, from Bac Ninh province), Tran Thi Phuong Th. (27, Hanoi), and Lam Thao Nh. (22, Ho Chi Minh City).
The suspects revealed that L. was the prostitution broker.
At the police station, L. admitted to her crimes.
The three men caught buying sex were fined 500,000 VND each, two women selling sex were fined 200,000 VND each, while Nguyen Thi T.L. was prosecuted and brought to trial for prostitution mediation.
The Student’s Scheme
According to Tuoi Tre newspaper, L. was a student at a prestigious university in Hanoi. Around September 2018, she rented an apartment in the T.C urban area (Hanoi) and repeatedly sold sex to cover her living expenses.
During her “client” meetings, L. met several other sex workers, including Tran Thi Phuong Th. and Lam Thao Nh.
Around noon on January 3, 2019, L. went with Nguyen Viet H. (a previous client) and two other men to a restaurant in Hanoi. H.’s group wanted to buy sex, and L. agreed to bring two more women at a price of 15 million VND per person per session.
After receiving the full payment transferred to her account, L. called Tran Thi Phuong Th. and Lam Thao Nh., agreeing to take a 3 million VND commission from each. Th. and Nh. agreed.
Following L.’s instructions, Th. and Nh. went to a hotel in Cua Nam ward, Hanoi.
On June 18, 2019, the Hanoi People’s Court sentenced Nguyen Thi T.L. (24, from Bac Ninh) to three years in prison for prostitution mediation.
