After repeatedly asking Li to send the promised gifts with no results, the streamer took legal action. She filed a lawsuit demanding he honor his commitment or compensate her. She argued that his failure to pay not only broke an informal contract but caused her emotional and financial harm, especially since the huge donation was publicly announced, raising fans’ expectations.
Evidence from her livestreams showed she fulfilled her part by performing live shows as agreed. The court noted that Li received satisfaction from her performances and voluntarily rewarded her with gifts during streams, which are considered payment for her work.
This created a valid service contract between them that didn’t violate any laws or public morals. As a result, Li was ordered to pay A Wei the 50,000 yuan within five days.
This case serves as a lesson for wealthy fans who make empty promises. Streamers especially should protect their rights and avoid being exploited by false pledges. Still, many say in the unpredictable livestream world, it’s not uncommon for donors to promise money and then back out. Both sides need to be more careful when making financial commitments on social platforms.
