A Streamer’s Nightmare

In 2022, when she was 22, Pippi often chatted online with a man claiming to be an agent for an entertainment company. He said he lived and worked in Cambodia and needed an assistant to handle daily tasks and accompany him to events, promising a monthly salary close to 160,000 yuan (about 600 million VND). The tempting offer made Pippi accept without verifying the job’s legitimacy. She booked a flight to Cambodia immediately.
At the airport, the man greeted her warmly and even helped carry her luggage. They went to a place he called the local labor certificate office, where he insisted on temporarily holding Pippi’s original passport and ID card.
Then he drove her out of the city and stopped at an abandoned park surrounded by tall walls. Sensing danger, Pippi tried to run but was caught and pinned down. She fought back but was met with punches and kicks. Then someone shocked her with a stun gun, causing intense pain and immediate weakness. After dragging her into the park, they forced her to sign a form in a foreign language, later revealed to be a human trafficking registration.
They forced her to use a dating app to lure online investors, but when Pippi refused, the abuse worsened. Within seven days, she was sold four times like an object. Each time she was taken to a new abandoned park, she faced endless torture and sexual assault. Pippi revealed she endured nine gang rapes in just one week.
Eventually, her captors gave her a choice: cooperate with their scam group to steal money, contact her family to pay a huge ransom, or be taken to a “hospital” to have her organs harvested as debt repayment. Seeing the violent looks around her, Pippi knew the threats were real and chose to join the scam.
A Lucky Escape
While sorting trash one day, Pippi secretly kept a discarded phone card. She used a borrowed phone to top up the card and quickly posted on social media, sharing her kidnapping story and revealing her location.
Her desperate plea quickly caught the attention of netizens. The embassy intervened immediately after receiving the news, coordinating with local authorities to rescue her.
After days of close cooperation, Pippi was successfully rescued on July 1, 2022. She was provided shelter, food, and money to buy a plane ticket home.
Turning Trauma Into Fame
Back home, Pippi attracted numerous media interviews. She appeared on various talk shows, sharing her harrowing experience in Cambodia. This brought her more income than streaming ever did.
Recently, she shocked many by complaining about the rescue team, accusing them of coercion before sending her home. These accusations sparked backlash, with many calling her ungrateful and selfish. The rescuers responded by sharing detailed proof of their efforts and the dangers they faced to save her.
Instead of apologizing or retracting her statements, Pippi used the controversy to boost her social media presence, posting videos and creating “hot” content. She even took roles in large-scale films, dramatizing her so-called “experience” to keep profiting from her ordeal. These moves have angered and disappointed many online, who feel she is exploiting her trauma for money.
