Not long ago, Mr. Wang from China took his younger brother to the local police station to report a serious issue affecting their family. The younger brother had spent over 16,000 yuan (about 57 million VND) on a female streamer within a month. Mr. Wang insisted that his brother has an intellectual disability, so the family suspected he was being scammed.
Police investigations revealed that although the younger brother has some cognitive impairments, he is still able to do simple jobs to support himself and save some money. When he came across the pretty streamer on a live platform, he added her privately on WeChat. The streamer was very friendly, often teasing him and even sending suggestive videos.
The streamer never directly asked the fan for money but encouraged him to send gifts during her live broadcasts.
After analyzing the situation, police quickly located and summoned the streamer. She acknowledged her illegal actions and voluntarily compensated the fan for the full amount lost.
This case serves as a reminder: if you suspect you’re being scammed by a streamer, immediately stop sending gifts and gather all related evidence. Report the issue to the live platform’s customer service as soon as possible. If the amount involved is large, contact the authorities right away.
