About 17 to 18 years ago, when online games first started hitting the market, the 80s generation of gamers in Vietnam were still pretty young. The “rising stars” from the 90s were mostly just in ninth grade, born around 1990. This generation became one of the most legendary groups in Vietnam’s gaming scene, witnessing tons of changes and growth in the industry.
They got to experience firsthand the iconic games that shaped Vietnam’s gaming culture from the very beginning. Titles like MU Online and later Võ Lâm Truyền Kỳ, along with many other blockbusters, were all part of the 80s and 90s gamers’ journey. Back then, Vietnamese gamers didn’t have those crazy expensive PCs like today, nor did they own huge 27 to 32-inch flat IPS monitors.
Most of them played Võ Lâm Truyền Kỳ on chunky 14-inch CRT monitors, or if they were lucky, a 17-inch screen. But those days were special because they got to join epic Siege battles and hang out with close friends at cozy offline meetups.
Looking back at these photos now, gamers can’t help but be amazed at how bright and fiery their youth was. We lived, loved, grew up, and even aged alongside these legendary games. The 80s and 90s generation of gamers may have grown older, but their memories will always stay young, just like the golden days of our youth.
