On the morning of April 24, the online community buzzed with news that Vietnam’s biggest illegal movie streaming site had officially gone offline. Many debated whether the site would ever make a comeback, with some saying it was still possible.
The piracy site in question is phimmoi.net. This has been a familiar destination for Vietnamese film fans since the 2010s. The site offered a huge selection of popular movies and TV shows, updating content faster than almost any other streaming platform.
It’s important to note that all the movies on this platform were unlicensed. The site made money by running advertising banners.
Not long ago, the site was specifically accused by the US of illegally distributing thousands of American movies and TV shows. To deal with copyright issues and server shutdowns, the site kept changing domain names to avoid being shut down by authorities.
The domain switched from phimmoi.net to phimmoiz.net and phimmoizz.net several times over a long period. Many users got used to watching free, unlicensed movies, so it’s no surprise the site managed to survive.
Recently, some believe phimmoi.net changed its domain again to phimmoiizz.net. However, this new site appears to be a different piracy platform trying to ride on the original’s popularity to make money. The movie selection is incomplete and mostly symbolic, so there’s no proof it’s officially linked to phimmoi.net.
Nowadays, there are plenty of legal platforms offering high-quality movies like Netflix, Vieon, and Galaxy Play. Users can choose these services to enjoy great films instead of supporting piracy sites like phimmoi.net.
