PewPew’s banh mi chain, the first business project from the popular streamer, just opened a new location. While many fans showed support and encouragement, a TikToker known for food reviews sparked controversy by claiming the banh mi prices were higher than average. This video drew mixed reactions:
“They posted the prices openly, if you think it’s expensive, just don’t buy it,”
“Sitting in a cafe, paying way more for a tiny banh mi is fine, but here people complain,”
“Back when it first opened, people lined up, but now PewPew’s banh mi seems to be losing customers…”
In response, PewPew made a heartfelt video over six minutes long to clarify his stance. He explained that he posted about the opening to avoid misunderstandings and emphasized his attitude: “Anyone who comes to my banh mi shop is always welcome. Even if you don’t like the taste, I’m open to hearing your feedback. We’re always working hard to make sure customers feel as comfortable as possible.”
About the TikToker and the heated comments, he stated: “I want to share two points. First, I never opened the banh mi shop just to get rich off my fame. I understand the love people have for me, so I have to be even more careful with what I do to add value for everyone.
I don’t use costs or my name as reasons to charge high prices. I don’t think our prices are high because there are many banh mi shops that existed before us,” he said, stressing he doesn’t want to sell his fame through banh mi and that he plans to keep growing the business.
“We pay close attention to audience feedback. Products that get support will continue, and those that don’t will stop. We’re always ready to listen anytime, anywhere, and will act immediately.”
Frustrated with some unconstructive criticism, PewPew didn’t hold back: “If my products and services become a topic for arguments, it makes me unhappy. I hope if people have time, they focus on themselves, personal growth, learning, love, and happiness.”
