Summer break is seen as a time for kids to recharge after the school year and explore new experiences.

However, many parents worry their kids might fall into “entertainment addiction” and become lazy with their studies. On top of that, some forms of entertainment just aren’t appropriate. This has led many parents to issue strict ultimatums like banning YouTube or limiting wifi access.
Common rules include allowing kids to watch only 1 to 2 hours a day and only after finishing homework. Parents also create “blacklists” of useless or harmful channels, monitor viewing by watching together, and encourage educational content like science, English, or life skills.
YouTube Channels Parents Warn Against for Summer Viewing
Recently, a parent shared a list of YouTube channels with the note: “Has anyone else banned these channels for their kids this summer?” The post got a lot of support online. The list included familiar streamer names like Simmy, Sammy Dao, Phong Can TV, and Ve Ve TV, all channels with millions of followers.

Parents say Simmy, Sammy Dao, and Phong Can TV mainly focus on games like Minecraft and Mini World, with little educational or practical value. Their content is fun and playful but sometimes overly loud or annoying, lacking educational purpose. Some parents even expressed frustration:
“I also ban my kids from these channels. The way they talk is ridiculous and they even curse. Why doesn’t YouTube have rules like TikTok to ban swearing or fighting? That would be great.”
“One day these channels will be cleaned up, just like fake products in the market. Otherwise, these YouTubers will only harm kids.”
“Exactly. These are the channels my kid watches. I hate it. Ve Ve and Simmy and Sammy are so annoying, yelling nonstop. I only let my kid watch 5 minutes before switching it off. My kid likes them so much I have to mute the volume.”
…

This kind of strict ban is understandable since parents want their kids to focus on studying and build discipline. But if these rules come without clear explanations, banning content outright can cause negative feelings in children. Summer break could be a great chance to connect, understand, and support kids’ growth. If you’ve found good ways to manage screen time, share your tips so other parents can learn too!
