The name Mr Beast is probably familiar to many, especially those who follow the global YouTube community. Rising to fame during the PewDiePie vs. T-Series subscriber battle, Mr Beast became known as a “gold sponsor,” ready to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to support PewDiePie. Recently, he gained even more attention by creating a real-life Squid Game competition with prizes worth billions of Vietnamese dong. Even in his casual vlogs, he doesn’t hesitate to drop huge sums, sometimes millions of dollars, to hype up his audience.

Being this rich, it’s no surprise that for his 100 million YouTube subscribers milestone, Mr Beast pulled off a shocking stunt. In mid-April, he spontaneously hosted an event with many participants, promising to pay each person $10,000 (about 230 million VND) every day. The initial challenge was pretty simple: players just had to stay inside a room assigned by Mr Beast.

However, the difficulty increased each day as Mr Beast removed one item from the room daily. This gradually sparked criticism, with some viewers saying the challenge could harm the participants’ health and mental well-being. Basically, people worried that being isolated alone in a room, almost like solitary confinement, could cause serious psychological issues. Plus, taking away an item every day disrupted their daily lives significantly.

Still, many defended the YouTuber, saying that if you’re getting $10,000 a day, a little challenge is fair. The participants themselves probably can’t complain about Mr Beast. For example, Josh, who endured the challenge for a full month and walked away with $300,000, said: “I can assure you they had people watching me 24/7. These people made sure I was safe physically and mentally, they took care of everything. It was a great chance for me to relax a bit” – Josh said.
