In Taiwan, Trịnh Gia Thuần is well-known for her sexy lingerie photos that highlight her figure on social media. However, after getting married, she announced she would stop doing revealing shoots.
At the end of 2022, Trịnh Gia Thuần released a photo album titled Graduation Project as a farewell to the work that had defined her for years and brought her public recognition. Shortly after, the 30-year-old model announced she would auction off the lingerie she wore in the album. She emphasized that all proceeds would be donated to charity.
Most items were priced under 10,000 New Taiwan dollars (about 320 USD). The priciest piece was a red lace lingerie set listed at 17,000 New Taiwan dollars (around 544 USD).

Her decision sparked controversy among Taiwan’s online community. Some netizens found it distasteful to sell used lingerie. Harsh comments appeared such as “She must be sick,” “Shameless,” and “They’re like rotten steaks being donated to charity.”
Hurt by the cruel remarks, Gia Thuần took screenshots and filed lawsuits against three individuals for defamation and damaging her reputation.
After receiving the complaint, authorities summoned the three defendants for questioning. One defendant said, “I think selling worn lingerie is shameless. If people make money this way, young people might get the wrong idea. I didn’t name her directly or intend to harm her reputation.”
Based on the comments, investigators concluded that although the language was inappropriate and offensive, it did not reach the level of criminal offense. Officials stressed that public discussions must remain open and unrestricted. Punishing such comments could discourage people from expressing opinions openly.
Furthermore, the government noted that as a public figure who auctioned off lingerie and attracted wide attention from netizens and media, Gia Thuần should have expected mixed reactions.
In the end, authorities ruled that the comments were expressions of opinion rather than insults or attempts to harm Gia Thuần’s reputation. The three defendants were not prosecuted but received administrative penalties instead.
