On November 14, Andrea Aybar, 29, also known by her Vietnamese name Nguyễn Thị An, was arrested by Ho Chi Minh City police for illegal drug possession and organizing drug use. This came as part of a wider investigation into drug trafficking via air routes from France to Vietnam (case VN10).
At the police station, the actress and model Andrea Aybar admitted to her crimes and acknowledged that her mistake caused her to lose her entire career. She also shared a message warning young people about the dangers of using drugs.
“I realize my mistake, and I want to advise young people not to try or get involved with drugs even once,” the model said.
Earlier, on the afternoon of November 9, police raided an apartment in Thanh My Loi Ward, Thu Duc City, where Andrea and several others showed signs of drug use. Tests confirmed the model tested positive for drugs. Police also found a stash of drugs in her possession, leading to her and others being taken in for investigation.
This action by Ho Chi Minh City police is part of a broader crackdown on an international drug trafficking ring smuggling drugs from France to Vietnam via four flight attendants. Authorities traced the drug flow to expose the masterminds behind the scenes, dismantling 146 drug trafficking groups operating across provinces and indicting 630 suspects.
The operation has taken down nearly 500 drug rings, charged 1,132 suspects, issued administrative penalties, and sent 201 people to rehab. Authorities seized over 323.5 kilograms of drugs, 12 firearms, 3 grenades, and other evidence.
Early investigations revealed that suspects conducted drug transactions worth over 28 trillion VND.
