Model An Tây Linked to Massive $1.2B Drug Ring Bust

On November 14, Ho Chi Minh City police announced they had charged and detained Nguyen Thi An (born 1995, model An Tây, also known as Andrea Aybar) for organizing illegal drug use.

Also arrested for the same offense were Nguyen Trung Hieu (born 1989, singer Chi Dan) and Nguyen Do Truc Phuong (born 1994, KOL and popular TikToker known as the “charity fairy”).

According to Ho Chi Minh City police, this is part of an expanded investigation into a drug trafficking ring smuggling narcotics by air from France to Vietnam on March 16, 2023 (case VN10).

Police also revealed that during case VN10, they thoroughly dealt with individuals who had bought drugs from those arrested in the case for illegal drug use, including model An Tây and the two other suspects.

Earlier, on the afternoon of November 9, police unexpectedly raided a luxury apartment in Thu Duc City and found model An Tây and several friends apparently organizing drug use. Tests confirmed Andrea Aybar tested positive for drugs.

Around the same time, Tan Binh District police also raided a location in the area, suspecting singer Chi Dan of drug use, they also arrested “charity fairy” Truc Phuong for drug use.

Initial investigations show singer Chi Dan, model An Tây, Truc Phuong, and several others organized illegal drug use.

By November 14, Ho Chi Minh City police had formally charged and detained the suspects to continue expanding the investigation.

Case VN10 Started with Four Flight Attendants Carrying Drugs

Case VN10 was set up by Ho Chi Minh City police after discovering a drug trafficking ring involving flight attendants smuggling narcotics from France to Vietnam by air, uncovered on March 16, 2023.

In a short time, police revealed that besides the intercepted shipment, the suspects successfully smuggled six other drug shipments through Noi Bai International Airport.

The drugs were then sent via domestic express delivery to Ho Chi Minh City for storage and distribution across multiple provinces and cities. Police identified the entire criminal network, the masterminds, and leaders, while releasing four flight attendants who were exploited by the criminals.

Continuing the investigation, Ho Chi Minh City police have dismantled nearly 500 drug trafficking rings and gangs, charged 1,132 suspects, issued administrative penalties, and sent 201 people to rehab. They seized 323.5 kg of various drugs, 12 firearms, 3 grenades, and other related evidence.

Early findings show the suspects traded drugs worth over 28,000 billion VND (about 1.2 billion USD).
