Xiao Zhang met his girlfriend Su Yan through a dating app. He works at a listed company and, even though they never met in person, he was serious about the relationship and planned to marry her.

Recently, Su Yan suggested they meet to shop for an engagement ring. With an average income, Xiao Zhang felt hesitant because diamond rings are expensive. But she encouraged him, saying, “I know you don’t have much money, but I just want you to do something to prove you’re serious about me.”

To prove his sincerity, Xiao Zhang agreed to her request. But since he was busy, he couldn’t go shopping with her and instead transferred money directly to the seller.
After two transactions, Su Yan officially got a diamond ring. However, she wasn’t satisfied, claiming her father thought the ring was too small and asked her future husband to transfer another 26,000 yuan for a bigger one. After three transfers, the final ring cost 58,800 yuan (over 200 million VND).

But soon after, Xiao Zhang couldn’t reach Su Yan no matter what he tried. That’s when he realized he’d been scammed and reported it to the local police. The fraudster was quickly exposed. His dream girlfriend was actually a 24-year-old man named Jiang, who works at an advertising company.

Jiang admitted to the deliberate scam and expressed deep regret for what he did. He also said he’s willing to compensate for all the losses.
