A 30-year-old man from rural China, who had never dated or married, was under pressure from his parents to settle down. So, they arranged a match through a matchmaker and found him an 18-year-old bride. But no one expected the girl to behave so unusually. Meanwhile, the groom’s family had already spent 60,000 yuan (about 9,000 USD) on the dowry.
Wang Shuai’s sister felt extremely worried after meeting Tu Le.

Tu Le stayed at Wang Shuai’s home for three days, even sleeping in the same room as his mother. Wang noticed that she not only refused to speak but also wouldn’t eat, kept vomiting, and constantly complained about feeling unwell.
Observing her closely, Wang’s family realized Tu Le couldn’t bathe or take care of her personal hygiene on her own.
When Wang’s father and the matchmaker brought up the issue, Tu Le’s grandmother didn’t mention her condition. Wang’s family rushed into the marriage out of fear their son would remain single, but no one expected this.
“I’d rather stay single forever than marry her,” Wang Shuai said firmly.
It’s worth noting that the Wang family spent a significant amount on this wedding, 60,000 yuan on the dowry and 20,000 yuan on other expenses.
Wang Shuai is an honest man who takes family responsibilities seriously. His family isn’t wealthy, so he never really thought about getting married.

His father shared, “The matchmaker introduced Tu Le to us half a month ago. By the second meeting, they already wanted us to pay the dowry.”
When the truth came out, Mr. Wang accepted that his daughter-in-law might have intellectual disabilities but didn’t expect her to be unable to care for herself at all. They hoped their son would have companionship, but Tu Le ended up being a burden, with Wang’s mother having to take care of her.
Wang Shuai took Tu Le back to her home and demanded the dowry money back, but her family refused, claiming “she lost her reputation after moving in with her husband.”
Even more heartbreaking, Tu Le’s parents are disabled, and her grandmother manages everything. She argued, “I told them marriage is a lifelong decision that needs careful thought. We didn’t force or deceive anyone, it was Mr. Wang who was eager to marry her off.”

After that, the two families got into a heated argument, blaming each other while the couple sat silently. This marriage, arranged by parents and the matchmaker, was a mistake from the start.
Both sides couldn’t reach an agreement, and the Wang family was devastated. They weren’t wealthy to begin with and had hoped to use their savings to find a wife for their son, but no one expected things to turn out like this.
