In recent years, Gundam model building content on YouTube has become familiar to fans of model kits, with more creators joining the scene.
But among the many technical and often dry Gunpla channels, one Japanese female YouTuber has suddenly exploded in popularity thanks to a totally different approach.

The internet is buzzing about Rei Takane, the YouTuber behind the channel Cabapla, which focuses on Gundam model assembly.
What’s interesting is that Cabapla is still a skill-based channel, focusing on cutting runners, sanding, painting, and finishing models just like any other Gunpla creator. Yet after just a few videos, Cabapla quickly went viral across Japanese social media. And the reason is pretty clear.
Unlike many model-building YouTubers who film in simple workshop spaces, Rei Takane’s concept leans heavily into the Japanese hostess girl vibe. She stands out with her stunning looks, sexy figure, and bold fashion choices every time she’s on camera. In her videos, she often wears tight dresses or figure-flattering outfits while assembling Gunpla, creating a striking contrast between her glamorous image and the hardcore hobby of model building.

This contrast helped Cabapla quickly attract a large audience, including viewers who weren’t initially interested in Gundam. Many Japanese netizens admit they clicked on her videos out of curiosity about Rei Takane’s appearance but ended up genuinely hooked on her model-building process.
What’s notable is that Cabapla doesn’t rely solely on looks to get views. Rei Takane clearly puts serious effort into her content. In her videos, she uses all the professional Gunpla tools like premium nippers, various grades of sandpaper, ultrasonic cleaning devices, and detailed prep steps before painting.

Longtime Gundam fans have been surprised to find her setup is much more professional than expected. In her very first video, Rei Takane assembled the RX-93ff Nu Gundam Fukuoka version, a highly popular Gunpla kit. She has since tackled other well-known kits like Freedom Gundam, Justice Gundam, and Hyaku Shiki.
Cabapla’s video style is also praised for being easy to watch, combining beautiful visuals, quick editing, and simple, beginner-friendly instructions. On Japanese forums, many say Cabapla perfectly represents a new YouTube trend: taking a niche, technical topic and mixing in entertainment and eye-catching visuals to reach a wider audience.
