Apple’s recent Pro Max iPhones have made big improvements in battery performance. It’s rare to hear complaints about battery life from iPhone 12 Pro Max or 13 Pro Max users, and even the iPhone 11 Pro Max can easily last a full day on a single charge. But now, some iPhone users are noticing a drop in battery quality since updating to iOS 16.
Specifically, tweets complaining about shorter battery life are popping up more often, like: “I bought the Pro Max for the battery life but everything changed after updating to iOS 16!” and “Battery that used to last 3 days now needs charging after just 5 to 7 hours of use!”
Reddit users are also sharing their disappointing experiences after installing iOS 16: “My battery drains way faster than usual! I work in an office and don’t use my iPhone 13 Pro Max much. On iOS 15, I’d come home with 85% to 90% battery left, but on iOS 16, it’s down to 65% to 75%. I don’t think I’m using my phone more. I just scroll through news, check emails, or browse Instagram during breaks, all under an hour. I might not have noticed a 5% drop, but nearly 20% is a big deal even though my habits haven’t changed.”
Another Reddit user said, “My iPhone 13 Pro Max battery life has dropped alarmingly, from 11-12 hours down to just 7, and FaceTime or Picture-in-Picture is super slow. I’m thinking about rolling back to July 15, but I need some advice first.”
On the bright side, the iOS 16.0.2 update doesn’t seem to affect battery life on iPhone 13 models and newer.
To be fair, battery life usually dips a bit right after a major OS update because the device is working in the background to optimize the new system. This happened even with the initial iOS 16 release, which was pulled back for fixes. But it’s been two weeks now, and any background adjustments should be done.
Some users suspect Apple might be intentionally increasing battery drain to push more people to upgrade to the new iPhone 14.
Users should note that iOS 16.0.2 doesn’t include any battery-related fixes for iPhones. If this issue continues, Apple will face serious pressure to address whatever is causing the battery drain.
