Mr. Truong Quang Viet, Deputy Director of Hanoi’s Center for Disease Control, confirmed that the 20-year-old student from Chi Linh is a close contact of a Covid patient in Hai Duong. The student studies foreign languages in Hanoi and rents a room on Nguyen Khanh Toan street, Cau Giay district.
On January 27, the student developed symptoms including cough, fever, and sore throat. He went to Bach Mai Hospital for a checkup, where he was tested and confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 on January 28, 2021.
That same evening, authorities sealed off the alley leading to the patient’s home. Many locals expressed worry and confusion, fearing they would be unable to leave.
During an online meeting on January 28, the Minister of Health emphasized that Bach Mai Hospital quickly reported the case of a patient from Hai Duong who came for treatment and rented a room in Cau Giay district.
At the same day’s Hanoi Covid-19 prevention meeting, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Chu Xuan Dung, stated that Hanoi has one case linked to the Hai Duong patient. This patient visited Bach Mai Hospital and later rented a home in Cau Giay.
“The Ministry of Health has informed Hanoi CDC. Hanoi faces a high risk, raising the alert to red,” said Mr. Dung.
