Recently, a video posted on Chinese social media caught a lot of attention. A young man visiting home for Lunar New Year in Inner Mongolia, China, played chess with his grandpa. But the match wasn’t exactly fair since the guy used his phone during the game.
It turns out the grandpa is a chess master, while the young man only knows the basics and rules of Chinese chess. Having seen videos online of people using phones to play chess against opponents, he decided to try it himself.
Specifically, he set his phone to the hardest difficulty. Every time his grandpa made a move, he copied it on the phone, then followed the phone’s suggested moves to counter. He played five rounds with his grandpa and won every single one.
The grandpa was amazed by the results and even asked, “After so many years apart, how did you get so good at chess?” The young man eventually confessed everything, but instead of getting upset, his grandpa found his clever trick amusing.
