Midnight Plea for Help
On the evening of June 19, social media buzzed about a first-year student in Hanoi who forgot his laptop. According to the post, the student accidentally left his laptop bag worth 22 million VND at a bus stop on Lang Street. Coming from a difficult family background, the laptop was his only valuable possession for studying in Hanoi.
The post quickly went viral with tens of thousands of likes and shares. Like a miracle, within just one hour, forums updated that the lucky student had found his laptop.
We contacted N.H.T, the admin of the Hanoi fanpage who helped connect and support the student Nguyen Hoang Tuan mentioned in the post. Mr. T said that around 8:30 PM on June 19, Hoang Tuan messaged the fanpage asking for help.
Reading Tuan’s message, Mr. T advised him to stay calm and check nearby home security cameras for clues. Once they had footage, the fanpage would post it to help find the laptop.
“Our page gets many messages daily asking for help finding lost documents, phones, or belongings. We can’t respond to all quickly. But when I read Tuan’s message saying he’s a student and that the laptop was the only thing his parents bought for his studies, we decided to verify and help him,” Mr. T shared.
A Heartwarming Miracle
After the plea, the student checked security cameras around the bus stop but found no leads. Feeling down, he messaged Mr. T again hoping for another solution.
Moved by his situation, Mr. T asked Tuan to take a photo at the bus stop so he could post it online.
“It was already 10 PM when we posted, but we didn’t expect it to spread so widely. Within 30 minutes, we received many messages offering financial help for the student.
The story put a lot of pressure on the page from public opinion. Some accused us of making it up or scamming. We didn’t dare share Tuan’s phone number or bank details to avoid scammers taking advantage.
In the end, we comforted him by saying sometimes things are lost but people are gained. We told him to keep the phone number in his bag, if someone kind found it, they would contact him. If no one reached out within 24 hours, our team would use part of our fund to buy him a new laptop,” Mr. T explained.
Then, unexpectedly, at 9 AM on June 20, Mr. T got a call from Tuan saying someone had found the laptop. The person who found it saw a warranty paper inside the backpack with Tuan’s phone number and contacted him to return it in person. The story ended on a hopeful, heartwarming note.
“Tuan messaged to thank repeatedly. He thanked the 27-year-old man who found the laptop. The man said he was tired after work last night and went to bed early, so he didn’t see the post until this morning when he browsed online and immediately called Tuan.
It’s lucky there are still many good people around. We’re happy and grateful to the online community for their support. Good things happen when we believe in life,” Mr. T expressed.
