For veteran League of Legends (LOL) players, the name Xiao Cang isn’t just a name, it’s a whole era tied to the golden age of esports. As one of the first “Esports goddesses,” she was a familiar face to many. But harsh realities and life’s ups and downs have pushed this former star into a heartbreaking struggle.

Recently, fans were shocked to learn that Xiao Cang faced a serious financial crisis. After losing tens of millions of yuan in bad investments, she had no choice but to return to livestreaming to make a living. Yet the harsh new reality of the streaming world crushed her spirit, leading to a tearful breakdown on stream after losing a PK battle to a rookie streamer.

From “Esports Goddess” to Debt Struggles

At the peak of League of Legends’ popularity, pro players and early-generation streamers like Xiao Cang earned huge incomes that many dreamed of. Thanks to her fame and dominant status in the esports scene, she built up a massive fortune.

However, during a recent livestream, the former star couldn’t hold back tears as she bitterly opened up about her current life. She admitted that despite making a lot of money before, she lacked business experience. One bad investment after another drained her wealth bit by bit.

To date, her losses have reached eight figures in yuan, wiping out half of her lifetime savings. Cornered and under heavy financial pressure, she had no choice but to turn her camera back on and keep streaming, hoping to pay off debts and keep afloat.

Harsh Reality: Defeated by a Rising Streamer On Air

Returning to livestreaming after years away, Xiao Cang was shocked to see how much the scene had changed. The current streaming market is nothing like the golden years she once knew. Especially in esports and League of Legends, viewer counts and streamer incomes have dropped sharply, making it much harder to earn money.

Though her name still holds some respect and nostalgia among older gamers, that’s not enough to compete with new algorithms and changing tastes. Her streams now draw very few viewers. To boost engagement and save her channel, she reluctantly joined PK battles, a direct competition where two streamers try to get more gifts from fans.

In one live PK match, her opponent was a new-generation female streamer. The final result was a crushing defeat for the former esports goddess, who was left far behind by her junior competitor.

Xiao Cang breaks down on stream

The brutal gap between past glory and present struggles, combined with the weight of massive debt, completely broke Xiao Cang’s spirit. She collapsed, covering her face in tears in front of thousands of viewers. Seeing a once-proud “goddess” reduced to sobbing over losing to an unknown streamer left longtime fans heartbroken and reflective. Many wondered, “Is this still the dazzling esports goddess we remember?”

The Dark Side of Debt Behind the Spotlight

Xiao Cang’s tragic story isn’t unique in China’s esports world. Many former pro players and once-famous streamers face harsh realities after retirement or when their game’s popularity fades.

Even within the streaming community, former star player Mlxg (known as Lẩu Cay) recently revealed his own grim situation. On a livestream, he shared the heavy mental pressure he’s under and admitted he barely has tens of thousands of yuan left in his account.

The cases of Xiao Cang and Mlxg highlight the harsh truth behind the glittering online fame and esports industry. Quick money made in youth without financial foresight, or failing to adapt to changing times, comes with a steep price. Xiao Cang’s tears on stream show not only her helplessness against massive debt but also the painful realization that her era has truly ended.
