However, Musk added that if he ever did want to buy a club in the future, it would be Man Utd because it’s the team he’s loved since childhood. His statement put an end to rumors about him investing to own the club.
On the morning of August 17, Elon Musk announced his intention to buy Man Utd on Twitter, sparking a frenzy of discussion among “Red Devils” fans.
According to multiple sources, the Tesla co-founder and CEO is currently the richest person in the world with a net worth of $254 billion.
Musk is currently involved in a lawsuit after his $44 billion Twitter acquisition deal fell through. A few months ago, when he withdrew his offer to buy Twitter, many Man Utd supporters urged the Tesla CEO to turn his attention to football and save the Red Devils.
Man Utd is currently owned by the Glazer family. The Glazers took over Manchester United in 2005 when Malcolm Glazer, father of current co-chairmen Avram and Joel Glazer, paid around £790 million to acquire the Old Trafford club.
Man Utd is in crisis, sitting at the bottom of the Premier League after two rounds. The Red Devils have changed six managers in nine years but have not improved their results. In the last five years, Man Utd has won no trophies.
The Old Trafford club signed three new players this summer but now faces the risk of selling their star Cristiano Ronaldo.
