Just days after updating his official Twitter bio to #Bitcoin, billionaire Elon Musk expressed regret for not buying the biggest digital currency eight years ago.

“I’m a supporter of Bitcoin. I believe it will soon be widely accepted by traditional finance,” he said.

Notably, the world’s second-richest tech billionaire also admitted he missed the chance to buy Bitcoin back then.

Elon Musk on Bitcoin

“I was pretty late to the party. But I think Bitcoin is a good thing right now,” Musk said. A few days earlier, the Tesla CEO updated his Twitter bio to #Bitcoin to show support for the cryptocurrency. This move immediately pushed Bitcoin’s price up 20% to $38,566 amid Robinhood’s ban on trading GameStop and other stocks. Following the ban, many traders poured money into crypto markets.

There’s speculation that Musk has bought a large amount of Bitcoin, though the exact amount is unknown. Back in 2018, he revealed owning about 0.25 BTC (roughly $8,500 at current prices), gifted to him by a friend years ago.

However, Musk’s current views on Bitcoin differ from other billionaires like legendary investor Warren Buffett. In a February 2020 CNBC interview, Buffett, with a net worth of $86.7 billion, called cryptocurrencies “basically worthless” and said he would never invest in any digital currency.
