Dad Blames Toddler After Overspending on Game…
Recently, a hilarious yet chaotic incident has been stirring up netizens in China. A man named Da Li from Guangzhou filed a lawsuit against a game publisher, demanding a refund of over 21,000 yuan (around 100 million VND). He claimed that his 2-year-old son accidentally spent the money in the game without any guardian approval.
In the lawsuit, Da Li insisted that his son, Xiao Li, used his phone to spend that amount on the game over 7 months, starting when the boy was just 2 years and 11 months old until he was nearly 4. He argued the spending was illegal since it was done by a minor and demanded the game company refund the “accidental” charges.
However, after investigation and trial, the court found many inconsistencies and contradictions in the father’s statements.
Blaming the kid backfires hard
According to the court’s findings, login data showed most activity happened between midnight and early morning. It’s highly unlikely a 2-year-old would be up and accidentally making purchases at those hours. Moreover, chat logs from the game account contained phrases clearly used by an adult.
On top of that, payment history revealed multiple scans of QR codes at internet cafes, further proving the player was an adult, not a toddler. Based on the evidence, Guangzhou Internet Court concluded that Da Li himself was the one making the purchases and then tried to shift the blame to his child to dodge financial responsibility and exploit consumer protections for minors to get a refund.
For this dishonest act, the court ruled that Da Li filed a false lawsuit on purpose and fined him 10,000 yuan (about 40 million VND) for wrongful litigation. All refund claims were completely denied.
In reality, kids accidentally spending money in games has happened many times, causing trouble for parents. But adults deliberately blaming their children to cover up their own financial mistakes is not only unethical but also illegal.
