ChatGPT users worldwide have been unable to access the service for more than 3 hours so far. OpenAI, the company behind the popular AI chatbot, confirmed the outage, saying they identified the cause and are actively working on a fix.
The issue didn’t just affect ChatGPT. OpenAI’s text-to-video generator, Sora, was also impacted, leaving that service completely down. OpenAI shared updates about the outage on their status page and on X (formerly Twitter).
Earlier this month, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed the company’s tech now has 300 million active weekly users. This outage comes shortly after Apple rolled out new software versions integrating ChatGPT on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
This isn’t the first time ChatGPT has gone down. Back in June, the service was offline for over 5 hours.
Valued at $157 billion in its latest funding round in October, which included Microsoft and Nvidia, OpenAI has become a tech phenomenon since launching ChatGPT in late 2022. For now, users still can’t access ChatGPT and there’s no clear timeline for when the issue will be fully resolved.
