Apple is one of the most prestigious companies in the world. Landing a job there is no easy feat. Typically, Apple’s interview questions test both technical skills (based on candidates’ past experience) and their problem-solving abilities through tricky puzzles.

If you’re interviewing for a retail position at Apple stores, expect plenty of questions about how you’d handle unhappy customers.

Business Insider compiled a list of tough interview questions shared by Apple candidates on Glassdoor. These are some of the hardest challenges Apple uses to evaluate applicants.

One question that caught a lot of attention was:

“62 minus 63 equals 1, by moving only one digit, make this equation true”, This was asked to software engineer candidates. The answer is to turn 62 into 26 (2 to the power of 6 equals 64), then subtract 63 to get 1.

Here are some other questions from Apple’s interview challenges:

Product design engineer candidates: “You have a cup of hot coffee and a glass of cold milk just taken from the fridge, both left at room temperature. When should you add the milk to the coffee for the best blend? Immediately, after a short wait, or after a longer wait?”

Consultant candidates: “How much does the Empire State Building weigh?”

Software engineer candidates: “There are 100 coins on a table, 10 heads up and 90 tails up. You can’t see or touch the coins. How do you split them into two piles so that each pile has the same number of heads?”

Quality assurance engineer candidates: “You have three boxes labeled apples, oranges, and apples & oranges. All labels are wrong. You can open only one box and take out one fruit without looking inside. How do you figure out which box contains what?”

Construction engineer candidates: “Are you smart?”

Mechanical engineer candidates: “If you place a cup of water on a spinning table and gradually increase the speed, what happens first: the cup slides off, tips over, or the water spills?”

Apple advisor candidates: “What’s more important, fixing a customer’s problem or creating a great customer experience?”

Expert candidates: “Why did Apple change its name from Apple Computer Incorporated to Apple Inc.?”
