Faker and T1 were defeated by DWG KIA in a tense best-of-five semifinal match. This game was considered one of the most exciting of Worlds 2021. Once again knocked out in the semifinals, Faker and T1 ended their 2021 season and returned to South Korea on the morning of November 3 (Vietnam time).
After the loss to DK, Faker said he would spend time resting, exercising, and preparing for the next season. He also mentioned that he didn’t really care about the finals or who would win.
Faker’s comment quickly became a target for harsh criticism from some overzealous LCK fans. Many accused him of being bitter and not supporting the LCK while South Korea still had a team in the finals.
In response to the backlash, veteran player Ambition, a legendary figure in the LCK, immediately spoke up to defend Faker. “If I lost in the semifinals, I wouldn’t care about the finals either. Who wins the finals? I wouldn’t even watch it,” Ambition said after reading about Faker on his stream.
Although they belong to different teams and often face off in the LCK, Ambition was even the “victim” of Faker’s legendary solo kill when Faker first debuted professionally. Despite this, there’s no bad blood between them. In fact, they are quite close and often duo queue together. Also, whenever there’s a Faker career milestone, Ambition is frequently “called out” by Faker’s fans.
It seems some LCK fans have been too harsh on Faker. He went through a tough season with T1 and didn’t get the results he wanted, so his plan to rest makes sense. Plus, teams are already rushing to finalize their rosters for the next season. Faker definitely doesn’t want to fall behind, especially since his passion for reaching the top with T1 is still burning strong.
