In the world of online gaming, scams are becoming more sophisticated and dangerous than ever. Recently, a case involving a 13-year-old female gamer in Guangxi, China shocked the online community. She nearly lost nearly 1 billion VND after trusting instructions from someone pretending to be a police officer while playing an online game.
Specifically, the young gamer was playing on her phone at home when she suddenly received a message. The sender claimed to be a “local city police officer” and said she was suspected of involvement in an online game scam. They demanded she immediately transfer money to a “safe account” or face legal penalties.
Under threat and while still playing the game, she quietly took her mother’s phone, hid in the bathroom, changed her WeChat and bank card passwords as instructed, and transferred over 40,000 yuan (about 143 million VND). She was about to transfer the remaining 250,000 yuan from her mother’s bank card to the scammer’s account when her mother noticed what was happening.
Her mother immediately called the police. Upon receiving the report, local authorities acted quickly to stop the payment and successfully recovered the money from the mother’s card.
This case is just one of many online gaming scams. Many gamers have been tricked and lost money by trading accounts on untrustworthy websites. Players need to be extremely cautious when engaging in these activities. Do not trust messages on social media.
