On the afternoon of December 4th, Chinese media and online communities were shocked by the news that Quỳnh Dao, the creator of My Fair Princess, passed away at the age of 86.
According to multiple Taiwanese media outlets, Quỳnh Dao is believed to have taken her own life at her home around 1 PM today (December 4th). Emergency responders reported that when they arrived at the scene, Quỳnh Dao had already stopped breathing and her heart had ceased.
Born in 1938 in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, Quỳnh Dao was known as one of the most famous authors of romantic novels. She was also the mastermind behind many classic TV dramas, including My Fair Princess and New Legend of the River.
At 21, in 1959, Quỳnh Dao married and had one son. Her first marriage ended five years later. In 1979, she remarried to Ping Ham Dao, who was the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Huang Guan”.
