VTV just aired a report exposing a high-tech cross-border scam ring with sophisticated tactics that caused serious damage, drawing massive public attention.
Nearly 60 suspects were arrested right after landing at Noi Bai Airport, returning home for Tet after a year of relentless scamming.
Previously, many scams involved impersonating local police or government officials, calling victims to update ID info, submit online school enrollment forms, health checks, tax declarations, and more. Scammers would take over victims’ phones and steal money from their bank accounts. Despite repeated warnings from authorities, many still fell for these tricks.
Police say from May 2024 until now, the suspects have stolen nearly 1,000 billion VND from over 13,000 victims nationwide. Some victims lost up to 12 billion VND.

Only 25 years old, P.T.H.T was a senior manager in the scam company based in Cambodia. She acted as translator for the foreign ringleader and crafted scam scripts tailored to Vietnamese victims’ psychology and real-life situations.
Admitting her role, H.T said, “After joining the company, the boss liked how I explained things. He rewrote the scripts his way, and I translated them closely. The scripts had many details matching the victims’ psychology.”
Notably, during the broadcast, she caught attention with her brightly manicured nails, freshly done for the Lunar New Year holiday. This sparked heated discussions online. Viewers expressed disappointment and anger that such a young, talented woman chose to work in crime.
