Black Myth: Wukong and the GOTY Obsession
As one of the most hyped and heavily funded games of 2024, Black Myth: Wukong carried huge expectations to win Game of the Year (GOTY 2025) even before its release. However, as everyone knows, the game suffered a tough loss to Astro Bot, leaving The Game Awards 2024 with just one win for Best Action Game.

Since The Game Awards is one of the most prestigious and largest gaming award shows, Black Myth: Wukong’s loss was a big disappointment not only for Game Science but also for the Chinese gaming community. It’s understandable since few games showcase national cultural identity as strongly as Black Myth: Wukong does.

After The Game Awards ended, Black Myth: Wukong kept pushing hard to compete in other award circuits. The game did win a few accolades, but it still wasn’t enough to make up for the painful loss to Astro Bot.
But now, Black Myth: Wukong has a shot at revenge?
Just when it seemed like the bitter defeat was final, both Black Myth: Wukong and Astro Bot have been nominated again at a new, massive game awards event, reportedly twice the size of The Game Awards. This is the Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA), a respected ceremony with a 24-year history!

GDCA honors not only outstanding games but also creativity and innovation in the gaming industry, with categories like Best Audio, Best Design, Innovation Award, and more. Overall, it’s a major, long-established award highly respected by industry pros.
The 2025 GDCA nominations just dropped, with Black Myth: Wukong and Astro Bot leading the pack. Both snagged seven nominations each, directly competing for the prestigious GOTY award. Will Black Myth: Wukong finally get its revenge on Astro Bot, or will it face another heartbreaking loss? The results will be revealed at the ceremony on March 20.
