According to Red Star News, at the end of March, the Quxiang Police Station under the Public Security Bureau in Quxian, Sichuan, received a report from a local arcade owner. He said a gamer came to play at his store using fake tokens, causing him financial losses. After receiving the report, the police immediately launched an investigation.
The owner explained that recently, several customers noticed the design of the game tokens had changed and asked if the arcade had switched to new tokens. The store then sorted through all the tokens in the machines and found over 3,000 tokens that didn’t come from their shop.
Based on the owner’s description, the police quickly identified the suspect as Chen, a 28-year-old man, and summoned him to the station.
Chen admitted that he used to spend money at the arcade at a rate of 0.44 yuan (about 1,500 VND) per token, which he thought was too expensive.
Around that time, he discovered online that for 476 yuan (about 1.6 million VND), he could buy 4,300 game tokens. So he bought fake tokens and used 3,138 of them to cheat the arcade machines, causing the owner a loss of over 1,000 yuan (nearly 3.5 million VND).
The clever scam backfired, and Chen is now being held under administrative detention.
