As digital entertainment booms, many young people are shifting their summer fun to TikTok livestreams.

Every summer, students get a break from school. Traditionally, this time is for healthy outdoor activities, family trips, or useful life skills courses. But in today’s digital age, many young people are moving their entertainment to social media platforms, especially TikTok.

Livestreaming used to be mostly for professional content creators, streamers, or sellers. Now, it’s become a popular summer hangout for lots of young people, including school kids.

Young TikTok livestreamers dancing

These livestreams usually involve group sessions with multiple people connected on screen in small boxes. Young girls and boys appear, dancing or moving to popular remix tracks or doing challenges set by the “room host.”

On-screen text often urges viewers to “save the host” or calls out specific names to “rescue” them. This “saving” means viewers must tap the screen repeatedly to increase likes or spend real money to buy virtual gifts like flowers, hearts, or other tokens to send to the streamers.

Backlash Hits Hard

This trend quickly sparked strong criticism on social media, especially in popular discussion forums.

Many people are worried about the values some young people are adopting, wasting their summer break on meaningless activities.

Comments show deep frustration. Parents have called on each other to take away their kids’ phones during summer to prevent them from falling into these pointless livestreams. Viewers are shocked and concerned that TikTok Vietnam might be regressing, flooded with chaotic dance content. The outrage peaked when some hosts were found encouraging underage participants to perform inappropriate dance moves to attract viewers. Suspicions of child exploitation and abuse surfaced, horrifying the online community.

Concerned TikTok users react

Many genuine TikTok users feel it’s unfair that their wholesome content gets limited reach or blocked from livestreaming, while these chaotic, shallow streams easily trend and reach thousands of other kids.

Psychological Impact

Summer should be a time to recharge, but getting lost in these virtual rooms chasing likes and gifts is causing serious psychological and awareness issues for young people.

First, it distorts their understanding of hard work and creates a false idea of “easy money.” When all it takes is turning on a phone, dancing, and flattering viewers to get thousands of likes and donations, young people might wrongly believe they don’t need to study or develop skills to succeed.

Another serious risk is exploitation and abuse online. Behind those shiny gift buttons lie hidden dangers. Predators can take advantage of young people’s innocence, their hunger for money and fame, to manipulate or sexually exploit them through the internet.

TikTok livestream psychological risks

Technology and social media are great tools for connection and learning, but they can also be double-edged swords without proper guidance and maturity. This TikTok summer livestream dance trend is a wake-up call about the emptiness in young people’s real-life entertainment.

A truly fulfilling summer should come from real-life experiences, good books, sweat on the sports field, and laughter with family, not from staring blankly at screens, dancing mindlessly, begging for virtual taps from strangers. It’s time to help young people unplug from the virtual world and live a brighter, more meaningful youth under the real sun!
