The shocking story of a 19-year-old guy from Guangdong, China, who was sold by his girlfriend for 100,000 yuan (around 365 million VND) to work in a scam ring in Myanmar has gone viral.
In February 2025, 19-year-old Xiao Huang was sold by his 17-year-old girlfriend Xiao Chu to a scam ring manager in Myanmar for 100,000 yuan. He was then forced to shave his head, locked in a “dark room,” and made to participate in online scams. If he failed to meet targets, he was brutally beaten to the point of hearing loss.
The story was shared by the victim’s sister on social media to warn other young people to stay alert and avoid falling victim to similar scams.
A Deep Teenage Romance
Xiao Huang and Xiao Chu met at a billiards hall in 2024. After connecting on a chat app, they started talking, became a couple, and moved in together. Xiao Huang’s sister was suspicious of Xiao Chu, describing her as looking like a “party girl” who dressed revealingly and flaunted designer bags and accessories. “Her luxury items seemed fake,” she said. She couldn’t understand why her brother was so infatuated with her.
From her encounters with Xiao Chu, the sister believed Xiao Chu was putting on a facade, and her real situation was likely very different from what she claimed. She described her brother as a typical person blinded by love.
The Unbelievable Trap
While dating, Xiao Chu kept brainwashing Xiao Huang, saying her family had a business in Myanmar and wanted him to join her there for work. In early February 2025, Xiao Huang secretly traveled with her to Bangkok, Thailand.
The sister wrote: “But when they reached the border, things got strange. My brother said the people who picked him up were armed and confiscated his passport and phone. He had to beg Xiao Chu to let him borrow a phone so he could message our family. We quickly alerted the police.”
At the Thailand-Myanmar border, Xiao Chu pretended to pick someone else up and abandoned Xiao Huang. He was then taken to a scam industrial zone in Myanmar. There, he was controlled, had his head shaved, and forced to take part in online scams. The manager told him he was “bought” from Xiao Chu for 100,000 yuan and had to generate profits for the operation. Xiao Huang worked 16 to 20 hours daily. Guards frequently beat him with iron rods on his back and ears and starved him mercilessly. Under this brutal torture, he lost a lot of weight and suffered hearing damage.
A Tragic Ending for Both
Since the scammers couldn’t get any money from the scams, they demanded Xiao Huang’s family pay a ransom for his release. After seeking help, the family negotiated and paid 350,000 yuan (about 1.3 billion VND) to bring him home in June. Xiao Huang returned much thinner and with darker, weathered skin.
As for Xiao Chu, after selling Xiao Huang for 100,000 yuan, she stayed in Thailand for 10 days enjoying the money before returning home, where she was arrested. She is now being prosecuted for fraud. Her trial, originally scheduled for late July, was postponed but will happen soon. Xiao Huang’s family hopes she will face strict legal punishment.
