Recently, the Customs Office at Incheon International Airport in South Korea announced the arrest of two Korean nationals: a 33-year-old woman (A), a famous streamer, and a 33-year-old man (B), for smuggling 11.77 grams of methamphetamine from Cambodia. Both suspects were detained and handed over to authorities for investigation under the Narcotics Control Act.
The case was uncovered in April when customs officials inspected a special shipment sent from Cambodia. During the inspection, authorities found the drugs divided into five packages cleverly hidden inside a travel bag. The amount of meth seized is estimated to be enough for 392 users at once. An immediate investigation was launched.
It is known that A is a streamer and social media influencer living in Cambodia. She exploited her local knowledge to purchase meth and ship it back to South Korea. Meanwhile, B, a cryptocurrency and stock investor, provided financial support for the smuggling operation. B was arrested at the delivery address listed on the package. Based on B’s testimony, investigators identified A as an accomplice and arrested her immediately upon her arrival at Incheon Airport from Cambodia.
Yoo Yong-bae, Head of Narcotics Investigation Division 2 at the Customs Office, emphasized, “No matter how small or well-hidden the drugs are, we will detect and arrest offenders. We continuously update our equipment and detection methods to counter increasingly sophisticated smuggling tactics.”
This case once again highlights the authorities’ determination in the fight against drugs.
