Yesterday afternoon, we reported that Elon Musk was about to surpass Jeff Bezos as the richest billionaire in the world. Elon Musk’s net worth had reached $181.1 billion, just $3 billion shy of Jeff Bezos.
In just a few hours, Elon Musk added nearly $7 billion to his fortune, pushing his total net worth to $188 billion. This officially made Elon Musk the richest person on the planet.

Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder, now ranks second with a net worth of $187 billion.
Right after Bloomberg reported this news, Elon Musk tweeted: “That’s weird. Back to work…”

Interestingly, back in 2019, Elon Musk said he was cash poor and had very limited liquidity. He even considered selling most of his physical assets, including his mansion.
But in 2020, Elon Musk’s net worth skyrocketed by $150 billion, marking one of the fastest wealth increases in history. Almost all of his wealth comes from shares in the companies he founded and runs.
