At noon on January 28, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health held an urgent online meeting with leaders from 24 district health centers to discuss Covid-19 prevention amid outbreaks in Hai Duong and Quang Ninh. During the meeting, the Department of Health directed local health agencies to immediately implement measures to control the spread of the virus in the city.
Through contact tracing, the city identified six close contacts of patient 1553 across Districts 5, 6, 10, and Tan Phu. All have been quarantined and tested.
At the emergency meeting, Nguyen Tan Binh, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, emphasized that the city’s health sector will maintain the highest level of alert against Covid-19. Rapid response teams and testing operations are now on standby.
Contact tracing for confirmed, suspected cases, and travelers from outbreak areas must follow proper protocols with clear guidance. Surveillance and management of quarantine zones will be strengthened, along with Covid-19 prevention measures at treatment facilities.
Additionally, monitoring people showing respiratory symptoms like fever, cough, or difficulty breathing is crucial to detect cases that might enter hospitals from the community.
The Department of Health advises residents to stay calm, rely on official health information, follow medical recommendations carefully, and strictly observe the 5K message to prevent infection.
As previously reported, after a woman from Hai Duong tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 upon entering Osaka, Japan, on January 27, Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long immediately sent a medical team to Hai Duong to support containment efforts.
By noon on January 28, Vietnam confirmed 82 new community Covid-19 cases in Hai Duong and Quang Ninh, including 72 in Hai Duong and 10 in Quang Ninh. All new patients are close contacts of the two cases announced earlier today, patients 1552 and 1553.
Patient 1552 is a worker at POYUN Company in Hai Duong, and patient 1553 is an airport staff member in Quang Ninh.
