In Ho Chi Minh City, 1 case was detected and immediately quarantined after arrival. The patient is a 47-year-old American expert who traveled from the US with a layover in South Korea before entering Tan Son Nhat Airport on January 28, 2021. The test on January 29 came back positive for SARS-CoV-2.
Ho Chi Minh City also confirmed 1 community transmission case. This patient is a 28-year-old man residing in Hai Duong province. He had contact with patient 1612, a previously confirmed case linked to the outbreak in Chi Linh city, Hai Duong province.

Gia Lai province recorded 2 cases, a married couple living in Ayun Pa town, Gia Lai. Their infections are linked to patient 1612 from the Chi Linh outbreak in Hai Duong.
Hanoi reported 2 cases: a 40-year-old man from Nam Tu Liem district who had contact with patient 1584, and a 34-year-old man from Dong Anh district who had contact with patient 1694.
Quang Ninh province recorded 4 cases, all linked to previous patients from the Chi Linh outbreak in Hai Duong.
Hai Duong province reported 18 new cases, with epidemiological investigations ongoing.
On the same day, the Treatment Subcommittee of the National Steering Committee announced 8 patients have recovered.
So far, Vietnam has recorded 1,767 Covid-19 cases nationwide, with 1,456 recoveries and 35 deaths. Currently, 21,857 people who had close contact or returned from affected areas are under health monitoring and quarantine.
